InfoChem joins MDL Isentris Alliance, expands partnership with Elsevier MDL

InfoChem adds chemical information and consulting expertise to growing MDL® Isentris® Alliance community, supporting more productive life sciences R&D through integration

San Leandro, CA, USA and Munich, Germany - January 25, 2006 - InfoChem GmbH and Elsevier MDL have announced the expansion of a long-standing relationship, making InfoChem a preferred member of the rapidly growing MDL® Isentris® Alliance. As part of a community of informatics companies working to offer integrated workflow solutions, InfoChem will provide chemical information and consulting expertise to enhance life sciences R&D productivity for researchers using the new-generation MDL Isentris platform.

"As biopharmaceutical companies strive to increase R&D output, one area offering clear return on investment is the effective integration of research data and workflow applications," said Elsevier MDL Senior Vice President Vikki Rehn, Framework Business Group. "For many years, InfoChem's consultancy services have helped research organizations maximize the value of MDL tools and technology. Now, as part of the Isentris Alliance, InfoChem is in an excellent position to assist organizations adopting Isentris technology to optimize research productivity."

"InfoChem and Elsevier MDL have collaborated successfully on a number of projects in recent years," said Peter Loew, Ph.D., managing director, InfoChem GmbH. "We're excited to support the growing interest in the new MDL Isentris platform, and apply our expertise in structure and reaction handling and retrieval as research organizations design more comprehensive and integrated environments for successful discovery."

MDL Isentris is an open technology, three-tiered informatics platform for integrating data, workflow applications and business processes to enable life scientists to more effectively analyze information and make better decisions. A growing community of informatics companies is recognizing the importance of improving R&D efficiency through the type of comprehensive integration enabled by the MDL Isentris platform, and is using the open technology framework to improve the value of offerings from different vendors.

Recent collaboration between InfoChem and Elsevier MDL includes the joint development of Integrated Major Reference Works, a product family offering one-click, two-way linking between MDL synthetic methodology databases and authoritative chemical reference works covering the scope and limitations of synthetic methods. Elsevier MDL also uses the InfoChem CLASSIFY system for automatically classifying chemical reactions in its database products.
