Science of Synthesis is a comprehensive, critical treatment of synthetic chemistry. It is one of the most authoritative, in-depth information resources available on synthetic methodology.
With the upgrade, Science of Synthesis expands to 32 volumes and adds SFX compatibility. The resource covers the fields of Organometallics; Hetarenes and Related Ring Systems; Compounds with Four Carbon-Heteroatom Bonds e.g. Carbonic and Imidic Acids. It now includes 60,000 new reactions, which bring the grand total to 200,000 reactions. The system contains significant synthetic methods for all classes of compounds. Newly added content includes Chlorine, Bromine, and Iodine compounds as well as Acetals, and Ene-X Compounds; Compounds with One Carbon-Heteroatom Bond: e.g. Fluorine Compounds.

Science of Synthesis Version 3.4, developed in cooperation with InfoChem (www.infochem.de), possesses a user-friendly search function that allows substructure, exact structure, reaction, combined keyword, and full-text searches. Within the application, a structure search is quick and easy since users can choose between multiple structure drawing tools (ISIS Draw, Java Applet, and ChemDraw). The system is fully compatible with both Windows and Macintosh and supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari browsers. The newly implemented compatibility with SFX helps librarians to navigate literature requests of Science of Synthesis users to resources and services relevant to their search queries.
